John Boos and his staff of highly trained professionals have been helping clients reach their ultimate fitness goals for more than 40 years. Each of their individual ambitions requires unique training and special attention. We work with cancer survivors, diabetics and those rehabilitating from surgeries. They are doctors, adolescents, mothers and grandpas ranging in age from 10 to 80 years old. Over time, fitness equipment and technique have changed but client’s success stories have certainly not.

  • Name: Chris Wingert

  • Hometown: Babylon, New York

  • Birthdate: June 16, 1982

  • Bio: Currently playing professional soccer in MLS with Real Salt Lake. UPDATE Real Salt Lake this past MLS season won the MLS Cup with the help of Chris Wingert. Received the M.A.C Hermann Trophy award for his outstanding collegiate career at St. John’s University, where he was named BIG East Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-America. Competed in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament as a member of the U-23 National Team.

“John Boos has been an incredible influence in my life and has an incredible mind in the areas of strength, fitness and nutrition. I started working with him in high school, and he has done a great job helping me to stay fit and keep my body healthy, which is very important for an athlete. At first, I was weightlifting at Boos World and mainly focusing on strength and speed. But I’m not around as much and can’t work with him on that level anymore, so I now see him mainly for massage therapy, which I think is huge. It really helps me if I have any problems or injuries with my muscles.”

~ Chris Wingert

“John has been a major part of Chris’ development since he first went to him as a freshman in high school. John was instrumental in making Chris into a stronger and more flexible athlete, as well as teaching Chris how to take care of his body to prevent nagging injuries that would slow his development. John also gave Chris an in depth and sophisticated understanding of the importance of proper nutrition. Without John Boos, it is hard to believe Chris would have been as successful as he has been at this point in his soccer career.”

  • Name: Matthew Groenwald
  • Hometown: Mount Prospect, Illinois
  • Birthdate: April 30, 1983
  • Bio: Presently a starter for the St. John’s University men’s soccer team that has been ranked in the top-ten nationally since he began there as a freshmen in fall of 2001. Has competed for the Chicago Magic Soccer Club, the Region II Olympic Development Team and Adidas’ Elite Soccer Program.

“I began to feel pain in my upper groin and lower abdomen midway through freshman year causing me to red-shirt the 2002 season. I was diagnosed with a severe case of Sports Hernia, underwent three significant surgeries and various forms of unsuccessful rehabilitation. I was very nervous I would never play soccer again if I didn’t do something soon, so I started training with John 2 days a week.” Boos understood that rehabilitating Matt’s injury could not be the only solution in his healing process, so together they focused on strengthening all of the forward’s muscles. Results were instant. Groenwald, who planned on attending medical school after graduation, looked to Boos’ knowledge in the field as an inspiration. “The human body can accomplish amazing things if trained right, and John has the key to these successes. I know in my heart that anyone who seeks his advice and is extremely serious about following his instructions will succeed and reach their goals. Under John’s close supervision, superior training, and massage therapy, I was able to fulfill my dream.”

~ Matthew Groenwald

“Through regular training at Boosworld, I became the athlete I had always hoped to be. I could run longer and faster and shoot harder than ever before. As I became stronger, I developed self-confidence. I received a number of athletic awards and was recruited by every Division 1 program in the country, and I accepted an athletic scholarship to Duke University. It was all because of John and how he changed my life. How can I ever forget his analogies and him saying, “Do you want to be a Chevy or a Porsche?”

~ Corinne Broesler, St. Anthony’s Girls Lacrosse Coach

“I am a St. Anthony’s High School student athlete and have been selected to play Division 1 lacrosse for Duke University. I have been working with John and Shelley for over a year. In that time, I have gotten quicker, stronger and faster. All aspects of my game have improved. The training is tailored to me individually and they put a lot of emphasis on injury prevention. I wouldn’t train anywhere else!”

~ Ella Bonafede

“I am a 55-year old woman in the jaws of menopause. I have been working out with Shelley and John since June 2013. Not only has this improved my body but also my confidence!”

10 years ago at the age of 63, Kovalsky, discovered she had very low bone density results that placed her in the osteoporosis range. Doctors wanted to give her hormone replacement pills, but she did not feel comfortable with that and asked if she could try exercise, specifically weight training, as an alternative. “I had never worked out before and knew that if I was going to lift weights, I would have to do it the right way, or I could hurt myself,” tells Kovalsky. Kovalsky has been working with Boos and his staff twice a week for several years now. She has become stronger and is happier. It took some time, but Kovalsky’s bone density has returned to its normal range. Boos explains, “Resistance training exercises combined with proper nutrition can be extremely beneficial in combating the effects of osteoporosis.” Weight training can combat many other health problems as well. Reduced blood pressure, body fat and relief of back and arthritic pain can all be achieved by proper strength training. “I’m working full time and lifting weights gives me a lot of energy and improves other things as I’m getting older, such as balance,” tells Kovalsky. Weight training is not strictly limited to fixing health problems but also plays a role in preventing them. “I believe we should be able to fix ourselves,” Kovalsky explains. “I think it’s within our power to take control of our lives and do things that help us to be better.”

Six years ago I purchased a life insurance policy but the cost was high. When I found out I needed to lose 18 pound in order to save on the premium, my financial advisor recommend I call John Boos for a free health and wellness consultation. Six years later, 33 pounds lighter, 12 percent body fat, I went from a 38 waist to a 34. In that time John rehabbed me through a severe bicep tendon tear, hernia surgery and two knee surgeries. Aside from all of that, his caring, nurturing approach to one’s fitness is second to none. Believe me when I tell you, every piece of equipment in John’s gym will fit you like a glove. You’ll feel like the fitness equipment was made for you.

“August 18, 2015 was the day I took control of my life.  Mid-life was winning the battle and I had allowed it to happen.  I was over-weight, my back, hips, knees and neck hurt all the time.  I was always tired and was dealing with great stress from both my job and my family.  I had considered working out/joining a gym from time to time, but I just never had the time. I also was intimidated to go into a gym and work out, afraid that I would hurt myself and cause greater pain.  I learned about John Boos/Boo’s World One on One Personal Training and I figured, “what do I have to lose?”  Well let me tell you what I lost.  I lost the constant pain in my back, hips, knees and neck; I lost both pounds and inches; I lost stress and anxiety.  I gained confidence, strength, endurance, and a great partner/trainer.  Shelly is an amazing coach, motivator and listener.  She is a strong force, but you would never realize it when you look at her as she stands barely 5 feet tall!  She is an educated person who teaches me about my muscles and my body.  She plans different workouts with me targeting my weak areas such as my back, hips and knees.  But she is not easy on me – when I finish my hour workout with Shelly, I am sweating, dealing with muscle fatigue and filled with endorphins. The hour that we work together is the highlight of my day.  Shelly has a strong attention to detail and remembers key pieces of information about my health, ensuring that we always have an effective yet safe workout.  She is not only impactful with someone of my age, but she is also impactful for younger men and woman.  I have seen her work out with young adults (around 14 years old), college students and the mid-lifers.  She works well with all ages and pushes everyone to achieve their own personal goals.  They say that it takes 3 months to change a behavior, however, my behaviors changed immediately following my first workout with Shelly and I look forward to a long, healthy and powerful journey with her.”
